Updated: 4 days ago

Animal Health Certificate validity has two different time windows, and confusing them can cause unnecessary worry.

10 days to enter the EU

The AHC must be issued within 10 days before the pet enters the EU. That outward entry window has not become six months.

Up to 6 months after EU entry

Under the 2026 rules, the same certificate can be used for onward travel within the EU and for re-entry to Great Britain for up to 6 months after EU entry, provided the pet's rabies vaccination remains valid.

A new certificate for the next trip

The AHC is still single-use for departing Great Britain. When you return home and later start a new trip from Great Britain to the EU, you need a new AHC.
