Urgent Animal Health Certificates: Last-Minute Pet Travel From the UK

Travelling to Europe with your dog, cat or ferret at short notice?

If your plans have changed suddenly, you may still be able to obtain an urgent Animal Health Certificate (AHC) before you travel.

The Pet Passport Co. provides urgent Animal Health Certificate appointments in selected locations across the UK, subject to availability.

Can I get an Animal Health Certificate urgently?

In many cases, yes.

An Animal Health Certificate can be issued at short notice as long as your pet already meets the legal travel requirements.

Your pet will generally need:

• A microchip

• A valid rabies vaccination

• Evidence of the rabies vaccination history

• To have completed the required waiting period after a first rabies vaccination

• The correct travel details for your journey

If your pet has only recently had its first rabies vaccination, an urgent appointment cannot override the required waiting period.

How quickly can an urgent AHC be issued?

An Animal Health Certificate must be issued before you enter the EU.

If we have an Official Veterinarian available and your paperwork is complete, we may be able to arrange an appointment within a few days of travel.

Availability depends on your location, the date you are travelling and whether we have received all the required information in time.

What information do you need for an urgent AHC?

To avoid delays, we recommend having the following ready when you book:

• Your pet’s microchip number

• Rabies vaccination details

• Your pet’s clinical records or other accepted proof of vaccination

• Your travel date

• Your first country of entry into the EU

• Your UK address and appointment details

The sooner we receive complete and accurate information, the easier it is for us to prepare the certificate.

What if I am travelling tomorrow?

Very last-minute appointments may still be possible in some locations, but they depend entirely on Official Veterinarian availability and whether your pet is already eligible to travel.

If you are travelling imminently, contact us as soon as possible rather than waiting for a standard appointment slot.
