Plan your collection appointment

Bring every travelling pet, plus the original supporting records requested during your document review. Keep dogs securely on a lead and cats in a suitable carrier. Allow enough time for the journey and the final checks before making onward travel arrangements.
Why choose our Falkirk & West Lothian AHC service?
Our Falkirk & West Lothian service gives you the choice of a convenient home visit where available or a straightforward collection appointment at Muiravonside Country Park. You do not have to leave the document review until the day of certification: we check the supporting records in advance and tell you if anything needs attention.
Because the service is focused on pet travel certification, the process is designed around the paperwork as well as the veterinary checks. We prepare the AHC before the appointment, then your Official Veterinarian scans the microchip, checks the original evidence and completes the certificate once the requirements are satisfied.

Getting an Animal Health Certificate in Falkirk & West Lothian
For pet owners travelling from Falkirk & West Lothian to the EU, an Animal Health Certificate records the identification and rabies details required for the journey. It must be completed and signed by an Official Veterinarian after the relevant requirements have been met.
The AHC must be issued within 10 days before your pet enters the EU. Rabies vaccination must also be valid before certification, including the required waiting period after an initial or interrupted course. Tell us the date your pet will actually enter the EU, not only the date you leave home.
If your journey involves Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway, your dog may also need veterinary tapeworm treatment within the required time window. Journeys involving non-EU countries, a change of ownership or unusual transport arrangements may have additional requirements, so contact us before booking if your itinerary is not straightforward.
Your pet will usually need:
-
A readable microchip
-
A valid rabies vaccination
-
Rabies vaccination given after microchip placement
-
Proof of microchip date
-
Proof of rabies vaccination history
-
Travel details, including your EU entry country and planned travel date
-
An AHC appointment within the correct travel window
Your Animal Health Certificate is valid for entry into the EU for 10 days after it is issued. Once you have entered the EU, it can also be used for onward travel within the EU and for re-entry to Great Britain, provided it remains within the permitted validity period.
How our Falkirk & West Lothian AHC service works
1. Book your appointment online
Enter your postcode and choose an available home visit or Muiravonside Country Park collection appointment. Select a date within the correct window before your pet enters the EU.
2. Send your pet’s supporting documents
Upload the microchip details, rabies vaccination history and travel information. Clear copies allow us to check the evidence before the appointment and identify any missing information early.
3. We review and prepare the certificate
We review the records and prepare the AHC in advance. If a date, vaccination entry or supporting document needs clarification, we will tell you what is required.
4. Meet your Official Veterinarian
Your Official Veterinarian visits your covered home address or meets you at Muiravonside Country Park. They scan each pet’s microchip, check the original records and complete the certificate when the requirements are met.
5. Travel with the completed paperwork
Keep the issued certificate and supporting records with you for the journey. Make sure your EU entry takes place within the certificate’s validity window and arrange any required parasite treatment for your destination or return journey.
Your appointment checklist
- Check the appointment address and time in your confirmation.
- Complete the requested owner and pet details, and send the supporting documents before the appointment.
- Let us know if your travel dates, route or pet’s records have changed since booking.
- Bring every pet included on the certificate and the original records requested by the team.
After certification, keep the issued paperwork and supporting documents accessible for the journey. Read the destination guide for your route, and contact the team if your plans change.

Frequently asked questions
Do you provide Pet Export Health Certificates in Falkirk & West Lothian?
Yes. Our Pet Export Health Certificate service costs £299. Contact us with your destination, route, travel date and pet details so we can confirm whether we can support your journey and arrange the appropriate veterinary appointment.
What is the difference between an AHC and an Export Health Certificate?
An Animal Health Certificate is the usual certificate for eligible pet travel from Great Britain to the EU. Export certification for other destinations depends on that country’s requirements. Tell us your destination and route so we can confirm which paperwork applies.
How much is a Pet Export Health Certificate in Falkirk & West Lothian?
Our Pet Export Health Certificate fee is £299. This is a separate service from our EU Animal Health Certificates, which start from £129. Contact us before booking an export appointment so we can confirm the requirements for your journey.
How do I arrange a certificate for an overseas pet relocation?
Email info@thepetpassportco.co.uk with your postcode, destination, transit countries, intended travel date, number and species of pets, and available vaccination records. We will review your plans and confirm the certificate and appointment arrangements.
How far in advance should I book an Animal Health Certificate in Falkirk?
You can book as soon as your travel dates are confirmed, but the Animal Health Certificate itself must be issued within 10 days before your pet enters the EU. We recommend booking early enough for us to review the microchip and rabies records before the appointment.
What documents do I need for an Animal Health Certificate?
We need evidence of your pet’s microchip date and rabies vaccination history, together with your travel details. Please upload clear copies before the appointment and bring any original records we ask you to bring when you meet the Official Veterinarian.
Does my pet need to attend the Animal Health Certificate appointment?
Yes. Every pet included on the certificate must attend the appointment so the Official Veterinarian can scan the microchip and complete the required identification checks before signing the certificate.
How long after a rabies vaccination can my pet get an AHC?
After a first rabies vaccination, or the last vaccination in an initial course, you must wait at least 21 full days before travel, and some vaccines may require longer. If your pet receives a booster before the previous vaccination expires, there is normally no new 21-day waiting period.
Can I use an EU pet passport instead of an AHC?
If you live in England, Scotland or Wales, current UK guidance says you cannot use an EU pet passport to enter the EU and should obtain an Animal Health Certificate instead. If your circumstances are unusual, contact us before booking and we can help you identify the correct travel document.
How many pets can go on one Animal Health Certificate?
Up to five dogs, cats or ferrets can normally be included on one Animal Health Certificate for non-commercial travel. Our multi-pet booking option is available for three to five pets travelling together.
How long is an Animal Health Certificate valid for?
An AHC is valid for entry into the EU for 10 days from the date it is issued. After you enter the EU, it can be used for onward travel within the EU and for your return to Great Britain for up to six months, provided the rabies vaccination remains valid.
Does my dog need tapeworm treatment before travelling?
Dogs travelling to Finland, Ireland, Malta or Norway require veterinary tapeworm treatment recorded in the travel document. The treatment must be given no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before arrival. You may also need tapeworm treatment before returning to Great Britain from many destinations.
Do I need a new AHC every time I travel to the EU?
Yes. A new Animal Health Certificate is required for each separate trip from Great Britain to the EU. If you have previously used us and meet the repeat-booking criteria, you may be eligible for our repeat AHC price from £119.
