Planning a trip to Europe with your dog, cat or ferret?
If you are travelling from Great Britain into the EU, you will normally need the correct pet travel documentation before you leave. For many pet owners, this means obtaining an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) from an Official Veterinarian.

What does my pet need to travel to the EU?
Before an Animal Health Certificate can be issued, your pet will generally need:
A microchip
A valid rabies vaccination
Evidence of the microchip and rabies vaccination history
An Animal Health Certificate issued by an Official Veterinarian
For a first rabies vaccination, you must normally wait at least 21 full days before travel.
When should I get an Animal Health Certificate?
Your AHC must be issued before you enter the EU.
It can be used to enter the EU within 10 days of the date it is issued, so your appointment needs to be arranged around your actual travel date.
Once you have entered the EU, the certificate can also be used for onward travel within the EU and for return to Great Britain, subject to the relevant validity requirements.
You will need a new Animal Health Certificate for each new trip from Great Britain to the EU.
