What is an Animal Health Certificate?

An Animal Health Certificate, often shortened to AHC, is the document most pets travelling from Great Britain need for entry into the EU and Northern Ireland. It records your pet's identification, rabies vaccination and travel details. An AHC must normally be issued within 10 days of your first entry into the EU.

What we check before the appointment

Before confirming the certificate, we review the available microchip and rabies vaccination records. This helps identify missing information or timing issues before the appointment. Please have your pet's original vaccination evidence available, together with your intended travel date and destination.

If the rabies vaccination is a first vaccination, or a previous vaccination has lapsed, a 21-day waiting period normally applies before travel. Sending the record early gives us time to check the relevant dates.

Newcastle pricing

A standard Animal Health Certificate is £129 for one pet, £159 for two pets, and £179 for three to five pets travelling together. Eligible repeat certificates start from £119. Urgent appointments start from £249 and depend on availability and valid veterinary records.

Plan your Newcastle appointment

Choose the appointment date around your border crossing, not the date you leave home. This helps keep the certificate within the required 10-day entry window.
