Repeat Animal Health Certificates: Do You Need a New AHC for Every Trip?
If you travel to Europe regularly with your dog, cat or ferret, it is natural to wonder whether one Animal Health Certificate can cover several holidays.
Do I need a new AHC for every trip?
In most cases, yes. Each new journey from Great Britain into the EU requires a new Animal Health Certificate. The previous certificate cannot simply be reused for a later departure from Great Britain.
Why can repeat AHCs be easier?
Although the certificate itself must be new, much of the information from your previous booking may still be available. If your pet’s microchip and rabies vaccination details remain valid and unchanged, the repeat process can be more straightforward.
Do my rabies documents still need checking?
Yes. The Official Veterinarian still needs to be satisfied that the rabies vaccination recorded on the new certificate is valid and that the microchip and vaccination sequence meets the travel rules.
What if my pet had a new rabies booster?
Send the updated vaccination evidence when you book. A booster given before the previous vaccination expired will not normally restart the 21-day waiting period, but a new primary course may do so.
How much is a repeat AHC?
Eligible returning customers can book a repeat Animal Health Certificate with The Pet Passport Co. from £119. Pricing can vary depending on appointment type, location and the number of pets travelling.
